Edmonton Community Foundation has money dedicated to funding the projects of young Edmonton and area residents. The key to a successful application is an activity that is initiated, led, and organized by young Edmonton and area residents. Individuals (or groups), between the ages of 13 and 24 years, can receive funding to make their idea a reality.
This granting program is not intended to support charities or agencies that already provide youth programming or services; rather, it is intended to support young Edmonton and area residents that create their own projects or initiatives.
Applications must adhere to the criteria set out in the application form.
Grants range from $500 up to $3,000
For the purpose of this program, young residents are considered to be persons 13 to 24 years of age
To receive funding, applicants must partner with a registered Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) charity
The charity must be willing to accept the grant on behalf of the young applicant – and must demonstrate this willingness by completing the reference form, on the application, with an authorized contact from the CRA agency (Executive Director or Principal)
For junior and senior high school students, Edmonton Public or Edmonton Catholic School Boards may be willing to accept grants. A principal is required to complete the reference form request
For post-secondary institutions, a chief financial officer or a director of student services may be the appropriate reference for the application
Some community leagues have CRA status
Multi-year requests will not be considered
All approved grants – including the names of the charities and the names of the projects involved – will be listed in Edmonton Community Foundation’s publications (annual report, web site, social media, and newsletters).
Projects and initiatives that will not be considered:
Involve direct religious activity
Involve partisan political activity
Benefit an individual (such as a scholarship)
Address deficit funding
Have already occurred
Involve funds being re-directed to activities beyond the Edmonton area (e.g. disaster relief in another country)
The application deadlines are: February 15 (for projects beginning after April 1); May 15 (for projects beginning after July 1); October 15 (for projects beginning after December 1)
Applications and reference submissions must be submitted by the deadline.
